Does your new job ask for good Excel skills?
"Good Excel skills" turns up in job adverts from accounts to sales, logistics and HR. If you're at home with formulas and pivot tables, you do in a quarter of an hour what takes others an afternoon.
Lurndo teaches you the formulas you really need at work, in short lessons. Every module is a new client with a sheet of its own: a chip shop, a swimming pool, a firm of bike couriers. So you see how the same formula works in very different situations.
Why Lurndo suits you
What you use at work
Totals and averages, IF, counting and adding up with conditions, lookups, cleaning up text, calculating with dates, pivot tables and conditional formatting.
Understanding instead of memorising
Every exercise explains why the answer is right. So you also know what to do when the data at work looks just a little different.
A few minutes a day
A lesson takes a few minutes. With a daily goal and a streak you turn it into a habit, even next to a full working day.
Nothing to install
Everything happens in your browser, on your phone too. You don't need Excel of your own to practise.

How to build it up
The first modules lay the foundations you use every day. Then you learn to look things up and analyse data, the work your colleagues will soon come to you for.
- 1First sheetYour first client with a spreadsheet: The Golden Chip, a chip shop in Whitby. You learn to read cells, calculate with formulas, add up with SUM and fill formulas down.
- 2Functions and referencesYour second client: the Green Fingers allotments in Harrogate. You learn to calculate with functions like AVERAGE, MAX and ROUND, to count what is there and what is missing, and to lock references with $.
- 4Counting and adding with conditionsYour fourth client: the Second Chance charity shop in Gloucester. You learn to count and add up whatever meets a condition, with COUNTIF, SUMIF and their variants, criteria and wildcards.
- 5LookupsYour fifth client: Flying Velo bike couriers in Manchester. You learn to look up values in a table, with VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, XLOOKUP and the duo INDEX and MATCH.
- 7Analysing dataYour seventh client: The Thirsty Owl, a brewery in Ripon. You learn to sort, filter and format a long list, build pivot tables from it and pick the right chart.

Why does my formula go wrong when I drag it down?
Excel moves your references along. If E2 holds =C2*D2, E3 gets =C3*D3. Handy, until one cell has to stay put, like a VAT rate in H1: one row down that becomes H2, which is empty.
So put a $ before whatever mustn't move: $H$1 points to the same cell in every copy. Which cell has to stay put in your formula?

Frequently asked questions
What Excel skills do employers ask for?
Usually confident calculating with formulas, IF, lookups with VLOOKUP or XLOOKUP, counting and adding up with conditions, and pivot tables. Exactly what's in this course.
Can I practise the way my Excel at work writes formulas?
Yes. At the first lesson you choose whether your Excel puts a comma between the arguments, as it does in the UK, or a semicolon, as it does in much of Europe. The exercises adapt.
Which version of Excel do I learn?
Microsoft 365 and Excel 2021 or newer. Where older versions or Google Sheets work differently, the lessons say so.
Is it free?
The first three modules are free, without an account. The modules after that are premium.
