Typing test: how fast do you type?
Type as many real words as you can before the time is up. You see your net speed in words per minute, how many characters you got right at the first keystroke and which keys slow you down. Free and without an account: your record stays on this device.
How we measure your speed
A keystroke is a character. A capital, a full stop or a digit with Shift counts as one keystroke, so no keyboard has an advantage. Net speed only counts the characters that are right, and a word is five keystrokes.
Accuracy is separate: the share of characters you got right at the first keystroke. A mistake you fixed with Backspace still counts. After the test, the heatmap shows which keys cost you the most time and mistakes.
How fast is fast?
- 20 wpmThe first level of our certificate, at 97% accuracy or more. Enough to write an email without hunting for keys.
- 30 wpmThe second level. Typing courses often ask for 20 to 30 words per minute for their diploma.
- 40 wpmThe third level: you no longer think about your keys, only about what you want to say.
Typing faster starts with your fingers
When you learn to touch type, you get a little slower first and then much faster. The first three modules are free, no account needed.
