You only really learn Excel by doing it
Reading an explanation or watching a video is a start, but you only remember a formula once you've typed it yourself. That's why everything in Lurndo is about practice.
You get more than 300 exercises, spread over eight modules. You type every formula in a spreadsheet that works it out straight away, and a second, hidden version of the sheet checks whether your formula really is right.
Why Lurndo suits you
Real formulas, not just multiple choice
You type formulas, fill them down, select ranges, sort, filter and build pivot tables. In between you predict what a formula gives and fix formulas that calculate wrongly.
No tricks with fixed numbers
If you type the result instead of a formula, the check notices. Your formula also has to be right on a sheet with different data.
Hints that move you on
Every exercise has hints that get more concrete one by one, and an explanation of why the answer is right.
A challenge every day
The daily challenge picks an exercise from what you've already learnt. That way it sticks.
An exercise to start with
How many items cost more than the limit in G2? Count them in I2, and refer to G2 instead of typing the limit itself.

Where do you start?
Every module is a new client with a sheet of its own. Start with the first one, or pick the module you want to practise.
- 1First sheetYour first client with a spreadsheet: The Golden Chip, a chip shop in Whitby. You learn to read cells, calculate with formulas, add up with SUM and fill formulas down.
- 3LogicYour third client: The Splash swimming pool in Tamworth. You learn to compare, to choose with IF, to combine conditions with AND and OR, and to deal with empty cells and error values.
- 4Counting and adding with conditionsYour fourth client: the Second Chance charity shop in Gloucester. You learn to count and add up whatever meets a condition, with COUNTIF, SUMIF and their variants, criteria and wildcards.
- 5LookupsYour fifth client: Flying Velo bike couriers in Manchester. You learn to look up values in a table, with VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, XLOOKUP and the duo INDEX and MATCH.
- 6Text and datesYour sixth client: Rings & Roses, a wedding planner in St Albans. You learn to cut text up, join it and clean it, and to calculate with dates.

Why does my formula go wrong when I drag it down?
Excel moves your references along. If E2 holds =C2*D2, E3 gets =C3*D3. Handy, until one cell has to stay put, like a VAT rate in H1: one row down that becomes H2, which is empty.
So put a $ before whatever mustn't move: $H$1 points to the same cell in every copy. Which cell has to stay put in your formula?

Frequently asked questions
How many exercises are there?
More than 300, spread over eight modules. Most are in the 50 lessons, and on top of those each module has a final test and there's a daily challenge.
Do I need to have Excel?
No. You practise in a spreadsheet in your browser, on your phone too. What you learn works in Excel itself afterwards too.
Are the formulas in English?
Yes, with the English function names. You do choose whether you put a comma or a semicolon between the arguments, so you practise the way your Excel works.
Is it free?
The first three modules are free, without an account. The modules after that are premium.
