Index fingers sideways: the whole home row

The show starts in five minutes and Jess still has a pile of messages. Two keys are left in the middle of the home row. After them, you know the whole row.

The keys in the middle

Between your two index fingers lie two more keys: G and H. Your left index finger slides across to G, your right one to H. Then they go back to F and J.

So each index finger has two keys on the home row: they do the most work.

Take a break

If you type for a long time, take a short break every quarter of an hour. Shake out your hands, roll your shoulders and look into the distance.

Tension in your wrists or neck is a sign to stop. You learn touch typing with short, regular practice, not in one long sitting.

Try it yourself
