Editing without the mouse

Arrows, Home and End, word jumps and selecting with Shift

There are mistakes in the minutes of the meeting. Lies wants them fixed, but her mouse is broken. No problem: it can all be done from the keyboard.

Steering the cursor

The arrows move the cursor by a character or a line. Home jumps to the start of the line, End to the end. With Ctrl and an arrow (Option on a Mac) you jump a whole word, and Ctrl with Backspace deletes the word before the cursor.

Hold Shift while you move the cursor, and you select. Whatever you type then replaces the selection. Your hands stay on the keyboard: no reaching for the mouse.
