F and J
Posture and the home row: feeling F and J, the space bar with your thumb
On your first day at Radio Ripple, Jess points at the keyboard. "I hunt for every letter," she sighs. "You too?" Not for long: touch typing starts at two keys with a bump.
Your fingers have a home
Touch typing means typing without looking at your keys. Every finger has its own place on the middle row of letters, the home row, and only types the keys in its own colour.
Feel for the F and the J on your keyboard: they have a little bump. That's where your index fingers rest. Your thumbs hover over the space bar.
Sit like this
Sit up straight with your feet flat on the floor. Your elbows hang loose by your sides and your wrists float just above the keyboard: they don't rest on it.
Tap lightly, with your fingertips. After every key your finger goes back home, so it always finds the next key from the same place.
Try it yourself
