Symbols for formulas and code

The characters of Excel, SQL, HTML and CSS

The members of The Workbench work with spreadsheets, databases and websites. Lies asks you to type up their formulas and code, and there are characters in them you haven't typed much yet.

Characters of computer languages

Excel uses = at the start of a formula, , between the arguments and $ to fix a cell: =$B$2*C2. SQL uses , * = and ' around text: WHERE town = 'Kendal'. HTML puts tags between < and >, and CSS uses { } : ;.

On QWERTY $ needs Shift with 4, and < and > sit with Shift on the comma and the full stop. On Belgian AZERTY $ sits plainly right of P, and < and > next to the left Shift.
