Arithmetic signs

Plus, times, divided by, equals and per cent

After the auction Rik settles up: crates times price, minus the costs, plus a per cent for the auction. It all goes into the books, with the signs.

Five signs

Besides the hyphen for minus there are four arithmetic signs: + (plus), * (times, an asterisk on a computer), / (divided by) and = (equals). The per cent sign % comes right after the number, without a space: 15%.

A sign gets a space on both sides: 12 + 7 = 19. Where they sit differs a lot per keyboard, and nearly all of them need Shift somewhere. Watch the keys that light up.
