The numeric keypad

Digits with one hand, if you have a numeric keypad

In the auction office there is a big keyboard with a separate block of digits on the right. "That's for lists," says Rik. "One hand, like on a calculator."

A calculator in your keyboard

Many keyboards have a numeric keypad on the right: the digits as on a calculator, with +, -, *, / and Enter. Your right hand rests on it with the index finger on 4, the middle finger on 5 (with a bump, like F and J) and the ring finger on 6. Your thumb presses 0.

If the block doesn't work, press Num Lock. No numeric keypad, as on most laptops? Then type this lesson on the number row: both count just as well.
